How can I prevent HIV infection?

I’m starting a relationship with someone who has HIV, what do I need to know?

It may be reassuring to know that you can have a long-term relationship and a fulfilling sex life with your partner, and stay HIV negative. It’s completely safe to kiss and hug your partner. If your partner is taking HIV treatment and has an undetectable viral load, this also reduces the risk of transmission through sexual intercourse to effectively zero per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You may also be interested in PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) a once daily anti-HIV medication that is highly effective at preventing negative people from becoming infected when taken consistently. Using condoms is also a very effective way of preventing HIV transmission during sex.

What prevention programs are offered in Tennessee?
